Financial suicide?

“What is the rational of Iceland and other debtor countries paying, especially at this time? The proposed agreements would give Britain and Holland more than EU directives would. Iceland has a strong legal case. Social Democratic warnings about the EU seem so overblown that one wonders whether the Althing members are simply hoping to avoid an investigation as to what actually happened to Landsbanki’s Icesave deposits. Britain’s Serous Fraud Office recently became more serious in investigating what happened to the money, and has begun to arrest former directors. So this is a strange time indeed for Iceland’s government to agree to take bad bank debts onto its own balance sheet.” ~ Michael Hudson

To ask (threaten) us to pay for an un-investigated crime scene only shows the psychopathic mentality of the financial terrorists, which by the way are living in luxury under the protection of the “claimants”.

After a 60% No-brainer vote, we might ponder the unholy alliance between bankers and governments, and the simple fact as some blogger pointed out, that, “most Icelandic people hadn’t heard of Icesave until they were supposed to pay it all.”

Will Iceland Vote “No” or commit financial suicide?

The Reykjavik Nine Trial

“Law and order are every where the law and order which protect the established hierarchy” – Herbert Marcuse

Two years on and not a single ‘elite’ member has stood trial for their crimes in the meltdown. However 9 ordinary people ‘guilty’ of Civil disobedience stand accused of treason.

Some of the Grapevine headlines:
Policeman Called “Idiot”, MPs Not Bothered, Witness Asks To Be Charged With Crime. Trial Reaches Surreal Proportions, Prime Minister Calls It “Sad”. Evidence Destroyed. Polish Consul Demands Apology

The state prosecutor likened the nine with the Polish mafia (?) posed to overthrow the sacrosanct, while the head jailer is known to fear for the rule of law if any of her party mates should appear on her doorstep.

It’s obvious that the recovering ‘elite’ is not happy about its temporary setback and is working full blast at restoring its former glory.

‘Leaks’ to distract our attention from serious things is as always trite, including an incredibly low-tec laptop spying case, while no one remembers Echelon which famously transmuted from a conspiracy legend to an EU Commission Investigation. – By the way, with Facebook (and blogging in general) who needs Stasi?

No End In Sight?

Without intent, David Harvey summarizes in an RSAnimation, recurring theme’s (providing categories sorely missing in this blog), questions, and explanatory formats, we have been living through these past years, he calls these genres:

1. Human frailty
2. Institutional failures
3. Failed theory
4. Cultural origins (Vikings are pigs)
5. Failure of policy

He then goes on to these (GSQ) questions:

Is there a Systemic risk?
Are there Internal contradictions of capital accumulation?
What about Financial innovation?
Can we change our mode of thinking?

– Or are we doomed to the fate of Sisyphus?

Carl Jung is attributed to have said “What [we] resist persists.”

Not at all hopeful for us or the way in which we have been handling the “boulder”.

Another peculiar paradox in this saga is the Recovery Industry which consists of more or less the same ‘class’ that bankrupted us, – not unlike the Counter-Terrorism Industry, or even the Military–industrial complex ever securing the peace – God Forbid.

In the Divine Comedy the inscription at the entrance to Hell reads, “Abandon hope all ye who enter here”.
However, in our own wacky version we get saved at the entrance by the “Great Icelandic Hockey Bailout.” because we are ‘too small to fail’, QED.

Live And Learn

Unbelievable, – to see professionalism at work in this godforsaken country is just astounding.

First (although I didn’t have any faith in it) the Special Investigation Commission (SIC) released it’s report.

And now, the Icesave negotiation team under the leadership of Lee Buchheit has produced another landmark.

Eva Joly got French and Norwegian investigators to look at two of the failed banks and they have confirmed the SIC’s report, ‘negligence’ on behalf of bankers and auditors and they have condemned PriceWatherhouseCoopers for not adhering to International Standards.

The Special Prosecutor is predicting legal action against some of the ”culprits” early next year.

Even the former PM will have to face an Impeachment Court, although I would have preferred to see all of the accused ministers there with him.

Faith in politicians is at an all time low (<10%), but hopefully the Constitutional Assembly will manage to curb the current unhealthy and corrupt political “cult” for something better.

Advice to Students and Employees:

“We received a call today from a SIPA alumnus who is working at the State Department. He asked us to pass along the following information to anyone who will be applying for jobs in the federal government, since all would require a background investigation and in some instances a security clearance. The documents released during the past few months through Wikileaks are still considered classified documents. He recommends that you DO NOT post links to these documents nor make comments on social media sites such as Facebook or through Twitter. Engaging in these activities would call into question your ability to deal with confidential information, which is part of most positions with the federal government.”

“Any classified information that may have been unlawfully disclosed and released on the Wikileaks web site was not ‘declassified’ by an appopriate authority and therefore requires continued classification and protection as such from government personnel… Accessing the Wikileaks web site from any computer may be viewed as a violation of the SF-312 agreement… Any discussions concerning the legitimacy of any documents or whether or not they are classified must be conducted within controlled access areas (overseas) or within restricted areas (USAID/Washington)… The documents should not be viewed, downloaded, or stored on your USAID unclassified network computer or home computer; they should not be printed or retransmitted in any fashion.”

Ministry of Truth

Life in a totalitarian political system, was much alike in 1984 as it is in 2010, the ruling party (with many names) achieved psychological mastery over its subjects by willfully altering the past. “Who controls the past controls the future. Who controls the present controls the past”

The infamous Central-bank governor was as always first on the mark, when he got is Editor to translate the SIC report, and subsequently made himself the Editor in chief to ensure proper workmanship.

Having been advised to go through a thorough public relations image radiosterilization, the other players in the meltdown are now preoccupied with publishing their accounts of events. Ministers, who should have been impeached, escaped because of our stealth quality nepotism and where exonerated by their pairs.

Memorable was a blistering speech by the head jailer of the country, who feared for the “rule of law”, if her party mates should have to risk her hospitality.

It is thus understandable that all hell broke loose when a worker at one of the memory holes (squarely faithful to the party) got fired from the news manufacturing room.

No wonder that they all want to own influential media, as we are all to believe that their inherent qualities of: lust, gluttony, greed, sloth, wrath, envy, and pride have over night turned into: chastity, temperance, charity, diligence, patience, kindness, and humility.

The Propaganda model explains factors such as Agenda Setting which predetermines, selects, shapes, controls and restricts by the selection of topics, distribution of concerns, emphasis, framing of issues, filtering of information, and bounding of the debate.

The systemic filters, concentrate on private ownership, strict bottom-line profit orientation, over-reliance on governmental and corporate sources for news, primary tendency to avoid offending the powerful and a religious worship of the market economy, strongly opposing alternative beliefs.

Against the ruling masters of our cognitive systems, manipulating the actual experience of remembering we have: transience, absent-mindedness, blocking, mis-attribution, suggestibility, bias, and persistence. – May God help us all

Connecting the dots

After the “Truth Report”, we are obsessed with an new investigative pastime. Numerous people are “investigating”, others are demanding new investigations and the inevitable result is that the investigative reports pile up.

The “Truth Report” consisted of nine volumes, and only God knows how many shelf meters are covered by the rest. It’s all starting to look like Damage Control, a cover up by drowning. – What we need is an NLP / Bayesian “spin” filter.

I think William Black put it succinctly when he pointed out that the investigators had done a fine job but then failed to draw the obvious conclusions. We have not seen him since.
?Madame Joly is likewise leaving the investigation for other and more pressing engagements.

Parliamentarians are hard at work preventing the findings of “juniors” to come to any harm to real people. Furthermore, they or rather their sponsors are eager to get back to their calculated dishonesty and unfettered plunder.

?It is becoming glaringly obvious, dot to dot, that the only people that will stand trial in the whole of this saga are the evil protesters. “Public” impeachment trial would only “shine a harsh light onto the murky world of corporate behaviour” and their “spivs”. It would be to much to bear to discover that after all the horrors to date, we had only seen the top of the iceberg

Maybe the “spiritualists” are right when they say that we should not try to inflate our constantly deflating egos by fighting windmills.  And maybe they are wrong as “It is not necessary to hope in order to persevere.”

Björk’s Open Letter to the Members of Parliament

” MEMBERS OF THE PARLIAMENT! WE ICELANDERS ASK YOU FOR A
TRANSPARENT, OPEN DISCUSSION AND RECONSIDERATION
CONCERNING THE SELLING OF THE ACCESS TO OUR NATURAL
RESOURCES !

In two weeks Magma Energy Sweden AB could become the biggest shareholder of HS Orka. The company would then have access to some of our most important natural resources for the next 65 years, with an optional extension for another 65 years. 130 years! Is this in accordance with the laws that state only the Icelandic government should have the right to harness and govern the natural resources of Iceland?

Shouldn’t we ask for an investigation of this deal and get a report on the business exchange concerning our resources, as we got a report on the banks?

Shouldn’t the nation be able to decide for itself if it is willing to sell off it’s natural resources, by means of a law change to enable a national referendum?

One of the IMF’s suggestions is that Iceland should open up access to it’s natural resources to foreigners. According to the letter of intent signed by the government last April, it seems that those suggestions will be followed. Are we thus going to use our nature in this way to pay off the Icesave-debts of those few Icelandic venture capitalists?
.
.
Allegedly the Magma deal is about the benefits of foreign investment. How does that compute with the fact that 70% of the purchase price is financed with a local bullet-loan with collateral in the shares?
.
.
Is there anything that guarantees jobs will be created in Iceland through this deal?
.
.
In the future, water will probably be the most valuable resource in the world. Will the deal with Magma Energy possibly set a legal precedent, and be used in the future to enforce the sale of more natural resources?

What will our grandchildren think of the deals we’re making now? “

” I urge the authorities to stop the sale of HS Orka and for Alþingi to hold a national referendum on the ownership and the utilisation of our energy resources. ”

It’s Oh (Not) So Quiet. More than 16,000 people have already signed.
Mapping this onto the UK and US census, this would mean more than 3.3 and 16 million signatures respectively.

Freedom of establishment for companies and abuse of rights in EU/EEA law – Energy policy

Oh my God, the holy trinity of “free” market economics: growth, (foreign) investment and job creation (lol) is at risk!
By the way, we are living and paying for a disgraced profession (one of many), bought and payed for by the likes of the current vulture.

What we are seeing now is an “operation” of suppressing the truth and splitting hairs.

” Who owns Magma Energy? Have MPs and Ministers seen and studied the list of shareholders? If not – how dare they sell valuable assets and rights of usage of the Nations natural resources to complete strangers, men without any reference at all? ” – Lara Hanna

Ministerial advice

The financial and social destruction continues but now at the invites of the Social Democrats and the Left-freaking-Greens.

The Ministry of Industry Energy and Tourism has been brought to light to have advised foreign investors how too brake Icelandic laws and aided and abetted the transfer of our natural resources to foreign control.

Ministers would resign for lesser crimes in all our neighboring countries, however an Icelandic Social Democratic minister just refuses to respond to the issue.

The Report of the Special Investigation Commission (SIC) documented incredible incompetence in the civil service and negligence in official duties of ministers.

“Great lack of documentation is prevalent in the administration and communications are characterized by informal conversations. Professionalism was thus greatly hampered in government.
There is no doubt that political recruitments are harmful and reduce the credibility of officials.
Narrow legal interpretation prevented work to progress according to the aim of the law which in turn served private interests at the publics expense.
It shows how the prevailing mentality and accepted value systems can be harmful to no lesser degree than direct fraud and scam.

Many politicians neglected their multiple responsibilities and failed in their duties towards the public.”

Nothing has Changed.

Economic growth, foreign investment and job creation is the usual corporate propaganda drivel. Let’s Take the Risk Out of Democracy and hide factual information from the public.
